I have spent nearly 30 years in the food service industry. My first job was working the line at MCL Cafeteria.
I later moved on to become a Vegetarian Chef for a healthfood store in Indianapolis. That was, by far, my most favorite job. I loved the owners of the store, my boss was amazing, my co-workers were easy to get along with and our customers loved my food.
Unfortunately, the pay wasn't all that great and at the time I was a single mom. So, when I was offered a position as a Sous Chef at a private 5-star Country Club in 1999, I jumped at the opportunity.
If you've ever seen "Hell's Kitchen" with Chef Gordan Ramsey, you have a good idea of the type of environment I worked in.
Although I received an education in culinary arts, I absolutely hated my job. There was no room for creativity or input. The Chef was an arrogant man with an ego the size of Texas. After six months of torture, I threw in my kitchen towel and started my own gift basket business in 2000.
Since that time, I have created and sold numerous online businesses. Today, I am a freelance writer and specialize in copywriting for clients across the nation.
I am the author of "The Diva Diet" - a cookbook for people with autoimmune disease, and am currently working on creating a cookbook for people undergoing extensive dental treatment.
The Cheap Gourmet blog is my hobby and provides a place to share my favorite recipes and cooking resources.
